Gilbert was born on a farm near Forestville Iowa, on February 28, 1871 [sic] and died at the home of her cousin, Mrs. Edwin Angier at Strawberry Point, Iowa on Monday morning, May 28, 1928. In 1873 her parents moved from Iowa to Tilden, Nebr. In her early teens she dedicated her life to the service of her Lord, and united with the Baptist church. In 1881 the family removed to Sherman County where she received the greater part of her education and for a number of years she was a successful teacher. Her health began failing and feeling she would be better doing outside work, she accepted a position as a field worker in the Nebraska Children's Home Finding Society with head-quarters in Omaha, in which occupation she was most efficient and accomplished untold good in that worthy cause. Later she exchanged to the Child's Saving Institute of Omaha, where she labored faithfully until her failing health compelled her to give up all work. While she resided in Sherman County she joined the Royal Neighbor Lodge, the Ladies of the G. A. R., and the W. C. T. U. in all which societies she took a great interest, as she also did in all branches of church work. Three years ago, May 20, she went to Iowa, where she made her home for the first two years alternating in the Edwin Angier and John Knight homes, and for the past year has been an almost entirely helpless invalid, remaining in the Angier home. She was a most cheerful, helpful person always wanting above all things else to be helpful to all with whom she came in contact and leaves to mourn her loss not only her sister, Myra E. Cowles of Mehama, Oregon, her brother Milo E. Gilbert of Loup City, Nebr., and Myron L. Gilbert, of Dannville, Ill., and a number of other relatives, but a host of friends throughout the State, and in other states.
