Description	:	Minnie Knudsen (Petersen) Nelsen was the first of seven children (Minnie, Jens "Peter", Lewis "John", Mary, Anna Maria, Christine, Christian) born to Soren Christian Pedersen and Sidsel "Cecilia" Oedhaved Knudsen (Danish immigrants from Viborg, DK). She was born Feb. 22, 1871 in Sal, Viborg, Denmark. She emigrated with her family in 1883 to Belgrade, Stearns Co, Minnesota. They were close friends of Nels Nelsen who emigrated to Belgrade in 1888. Both families moved to Kenmare, ND. There Minnie Peterson's father homesteaded in Denmark Township (north of Kenmare) and Nels would come often to visit.... Both families moved to Kenmare, ND. There Minnie Peterson's father homesteaded in Denmark Township (north of Kenmare) and Nels would come often to visit. On July 1, 1921 in Minot, ND she married widower, Nels Nelsen, a pioneer and general merchant in Kenmare, ND. They moved to Leeds, ND where they engaged in farming. She was the third wife of Nels . Her sister, Mariana (Anna Maria) Petersen Nelsen was Nels' second wife, who died of the influenza. It was in Leeds that her husband, Nels Nelsen died in Nov. 1933. Minnie moved back to Kenmare in 1938 and had made her home there until her death. Minnie raised all of Nels' children. She died Mar. 24, 1951 and is buried in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Kenmare, ND. Surviving is a brother, Peter Peterson of Kenmare; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hald of Browns Valley, MN and Mrs. Amalia Raun of Dickson, Alberts. She is also survived by a step-son, Henry Nelsen of Kenmare and two step-daughters, Mrs. Emma Sandberg of Harlow, ND and Mrs. Marian Meier of Spokane, WA. The late Mrs. Edna Marie Nelsen who married Nels U. Nelsen was a sister and the late Christ Nelsen of Kenmare, ND was a half-brother, Henry Nelsen of Sherwood, ND was a step-son. Mrs. Emma (Josef) Sandberg and Mrs. Marian C. (Frank) Meier were her step daughters. Minnie was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church and had been active in the ladies aid and in the early years had served as a Sunday School teacher. The Ringen funeral Home is in charge.
