She was born Aug. 20, 1892 at Atlanta, 111., the daughter of Lubbe and Meta Eilers Ortgies. The family moved to Jones county where she received her education. She was married to John R. Ulferts Feb. 26, 1914, and the couple lived in Cass township, Jones county, until 1962 when they moved to their present home in Monticello. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Lutheran church. She was preceded in death by a son, her parents, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include: her husband;four children, Louis E. of Anamosa, Mrs. Joseph (Maggie) Assel of Garner, Mo., Edwin A. of Hopkinton, and Lawrence W. of Marion; one brother, Henry Ortgies of Monticello; two sisters, Mrs. Meta K. Ulferts and Mrs. Harm Schafer of Anamosa. Pallbearers were Rudolph Ulferts, Ernest Ulferts, George Ulferts, Allen Ulferts, William Ortgies and Carl Ortgies.
