Fred White and wife had gone to the home of Fred's father, Hon. J.T. White near Ada, to spend Thanksgiving. Little did they dream of the tragedy that was soon to darken the lives of all and cast a gloom over the entire community. The event that was being looked forward to by the young people was not expected to take place for at least some few weeks. But as sometimes happens, it came unduly, and found them at the home of Fred's parents. The writer was at Ada when the news came that a son had been born, that mother and child were doing well and that indications pointed to further developments within the hour. That was all we heard that night, but on arising the next morning the distressing news was heard that Mrs. White had passed away after the still-birth of the second son. The first-born survived its mother and mate. The community where these young people were raised and made their home is stricken with a sorrow as never before. The family's grief is the grief of all. And while we cannot find words to express that which we feel, we want the sorrowing husband to know something of the depth of our sympathy for him. Deceased was a sister of Mrs. Chas. West. The parents lived on Spring Creek about five miles southeast of Ada until four or five years ago, when they moved to Harper county, this state. The following further was sent us by the family: Minnie Myrtle Hoyt was born in Logan Township, Lincoln County, Kansas, June 1, 1881, and lived there until September, 1899. That year she went to Colorado with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C.M. West. The next year she joined her parents in Harper County where she lived until June 1905. She was the fourth child of David II and Nettie E. Hoyt. June 1, 1905 she was united in holy wedlock to Fred D. White of Ada, Kansas, with whom she lived happily until her death. November 30 she gave birth to twin boys, one only surviving her. Death was the result of her confinement, and came that night at 11 o'clock. May 13, 1894, she united with the M.E. church at Ada; she was a consistent Christian worker. She loved the church, the league, and unsaved humanity was a heart burden to her. Her interest in the Sunday School was intense. She was proud of her class of little girls at Attica, Kansas, as she was of her class at Ada. A sister and brother crossed Death's river ahead of her. She left husband and child -- a happy home -- father, mother, two sisters and three brothers, and a host of friends to follow them. She suffered intensely the last few days of her life, but no soldier ever met death more bravely nor more patiently. She lived twenty-five years and six months. Our will and effort was to keep her. Death took her. God won her.
