She was born in Andrews on March 14, 1922, a daughter of the late Edward Bailey Cox and Bessie Mae Hardee Cox Powers. She grew up in the Andrews area, graduated from Williamsburg High School and lived most of her life in Georgetown. She was also a... Read More	Miriam Thomas GEORGETOWN -- Miriam Cox Thomas, 75, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. She was born in Andrews on March 14, 1922, a daughter of the late Edward Bailey Cox and Bessie Mae Hardee Cox Powers. She grew up in the Andrews area, graduated from Williamsburg High School and lived most of her life in Georgetown. She was the former owner and operator of Miriam's Beauty Shop and was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, the Susanna Wesley Church School Class, the Duncanites and the Loula Ford Circle of the United Methodist Women. She was also a certified lay speaker and had been a member of the church choir for many years. She was a member of Winyah Chapter 148, Order of the Eastern Star, and a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was the widow of Marion Jayroe Thomas, who died July 23, 1972. Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl Brown of Plymouth, Mich.; three sons, Marion Thomas Jr., of New York City, Harry Thomas and William Thomas, both of Georgetown; five brothers, Bernard Cox of Rockingham, N.C., RDavid Cox of Walterboro, Robert Powers of Camden, Jackie Powers of Georgetown and RDaniel Powers of Greenville, N.C.; two sisters, Cleonis Benton of Murrells Inlet and Faye Warren of Andrews; a stepsister, Margaret P. Cameron of Camden; and a grandchild a. The family will receive friends at any time at 2221 Violet St. in Maryville and from 6-8 tonight at the Georgetown chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Sampit United Methodist Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 603, Georgetown, SC 29442.
