Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Morrison, Rev. Madison Hankel, and Rev. Bob Bame officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. A native of Orangeburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Forrest Stanmore Smith, Sr. and Justin Eva Saunders Smith and was the widow of Franklin Moody Bennett, Sr. She attended Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina. Mr. Bennett did extensive volunteer work within her church and community - serving others with a loving spirit, generous heart, selfless dedication and a contagious smile. Mrs. Bennett was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she was named Lay Person of the Year in 1994. She had served in the church choir for about 50 years and was also a member of the J. Paul Edwards Sunday School Class. She volunteered in he church office and also served as financial secretary for St. Paul Mrs. Bennett was active in the United Methodist Women and served as treasurer. She was co-chair for the publication of the St. Paul Church Directory. She had sung in the Wayne Oratorio Society and Third Century Singers. Mrs. Bennett was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution - David Williams Chapter, serving as Regent, Vice Regent, Registrar and treasurer. She was an active volunteer with the Meals on Wheels Program and had served as a volunteer at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She also served as President of the Edgewood School PTA. Her mission in life was serving God, her church, her family and seeing that the needs of others were met. Countless hours were spent in these pursuits. She is survived by a daughter, Eva Leila Bennett Ale and husband, James Slate Ale of Clemmons; sons, Franklin Moody Bennett, Jr. and wife, Linda Baker Bennett of Columbia, SC, Jerry Allen Moore and wife, Norah McNeil Moore; sisters, Justine Smith Culler of Orangeburg, SC, Reba Smith Moorer of Columbia, SC, Catherine Smith Cox of Savannah, GA; brother, Mortimer Fenton Smith of Cayce, SC; grandchildren, Linda Renee Bennett Willis of Hickory, Allen Bennett Moore of Rocky Mount, Catherine Miriam Bennett of Columbia, SC, Lauren Bennett Ale of Clemmons, Leslie Washington Ale of Clemmons. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Miriam Bennett Moore and two brothers, Forrest Stanmore Smith, Jr. and John Jacob Smith. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Choir or to the United Methodist Women of St. Paul, 204 E. Chestnut Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530 or to the American Leukemia Society of North Carolina, 5624 Executive Center Drive, Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28212. Memorials may also be made by continuing her contributions to your church and community. Honorary Pall Bearers will be the St. Paul United Methodist Choir. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Seymour Funeral Home.
