Joan Marsau, 84, of Waterloo died Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at Rosewood Estate, Waterloo. She was born April 1, 1923, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Dorsey and Mary Heckman Blough. June 2, 1946, she married Robert Marsau in Waterloo. She graduated from Orange High School in 1942. Received teaching certificate from McPherson College. She worked in the Bailiff's Office in Waterloo and taught in the Business Department at Hawkeye Community College for 11 years, retiring in 1988. Joan was an active member of South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, directing the choir for many years, teaching children's Sunday School, serving on the Women's Work Committee and continued to quilt every Wednesday at church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening but she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Robert, sons John and his wife Sandy and Gene and his wife Carol, all of Waterloo; daughter Susan Sparano and her husband Jim of Golden, Colorado; 9 grandchildren: Jeremy Staker and his wife Melissa of Hudson, John Sparano and his wife Heather of Orofino, Idaho, Regina Sparano of Seattle, Washington, Angie Blomquist and her husband Brandon of Golden, Colorado, Joanna Sparano of Aizuwakamatsu, Japan, Rob Hall and his wife Trisha of Hugo, Minnesota, Bill Marsau of Stanhope, Iowa, Sara Marsau of Cedar Falls, and Jennifer Marsau of Waterloo; and 8 great- grandchildren: Joe and Nicole Sparano,Wyatt Blomquist, Conner, Tyler, and Carson Staker, and Isabella and Ava Hall. Joan is also survived by sister Dorothy Dadisman and her husband Lee of Nevada, Iowa. Preceded by her parents, two sisters, Bernice Blough and Lucy Ward and three brothers: Milan, Harlan and Dwight Blough. Memorial Services: 11:00 am, Monday, August 20 at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren There will be no visitation. Cremation will be followed by burial in Orange Township Cemetery.
