Burial in Orange Township Cemetery. Robert William Marsau, 88, of Waterloo died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Rosewood Estate. He was born May 24, 1924 the son of D. William and Ida Belle Marsau, on their farm near Dysart, Iowa. He married M. Joan Blough on June 2, 1946 in Waterloo. She died August 14, 2007. Robert graduated from Orange High School in 1941 and farmed with his father. His sons joined him in the farming until 1977 when he retired. He then became South Waterloo Church of the Brethren's custodian for 14 years. He was a lifelong member of his church having served as Chair of the church board and as a Deacon. He sang in the choir for 58 years from 1938 to 1995. Robert was also active with the Church of the Brethren District for many years serving as District Treasurer and on the Pine Lake board. In the 1960's and 1970's he was the Orange Township Cemetery caretaker mowing the lawn and digging many of the graves by hand with his sons. Robert is survived by one daughter Susan Sparano and her husband Jim of Golden, Colorado and two sons both of Waterloo: John and his wife Sandy, and Gene and his wife Carol. He is also survived by 9 Grandchildren: Jeremy (Melissa) Staker, John (Heather) Sparano, Regina Sparano, Angie (Brandon) Blomquist, Joanna Sparano, Rob (Trisha) Hall, Bill Marsau, Sara Marsau, and Jennifer (Kurt) Lidtke; and 10 Great Grandchildren: Joe & Nicole Sparano, Wyatt & Sawyer Blomquist, Conner, Tyler, Carson, & Dylan Staker, Isabella & Ava Hall, and Gavin Lidtke. He is preceded in death by his two sisters Edna Marsau and Irene Nelson.
