Highland Recorder December 10, 1937 Mrs. Mollie Sullenberger Trimble, wife of the late Dr. Kenton Harper Trimble, died Saturday afternoon December 4, in the King’s Daughters’ hospital, following complications which developed after a fall she suffered at her home on the evening of November 24. The Obaugh ambulance took her to Staunton, where she entered the hospital on the day after her accident. Mrs. Trimble was the daughter of Samuel S. and Jane Harper Sullenberger and was born in Circleville, W. Va seventy-three years ago. Her father moved to Monterey when she was quite young, and entered the mercantile business. She was educated at the Valley Home Seminary, Waynesboro and was graduated from Wesleyan Female Institute, Staunton. Mrs. Trimble early indicated that she possessed unusual ability in literary work and after her preparatory education, was ever eager to render service along this line. Her contributions, coupled with a keen insight into civic problems and her efforts to stimulate an appreciation of the beautiful things of nature, stamped her work as outstanding and resulted in frequent requests from friends to assemble and preserve these papers. For several weeks before her death, she had been preparing a paper she intended to Present at the December meeting of the Garden Club of which she was an interested member. Several years ago she was an enthusiastic member of the Chautauqua Reading Circle and worked for additional credits after completing the required four year course. Her memorization of poetry and ability for recognizing poetical quotations was unparalleled. Mrs. Trimble was an affiliated member of the Monterey Methodist church, serving zealously both as a teacher in the Church school and in an official capacity on the Executive Board of the Missionary Society. Surviving are two sons: Kenton H. Trimble II, of Martinsville, and Richard of Columbus, Ohio, and one daughter, Mrs. J. M. Kellam of Knoxville, Tenn; two grandsons, Kenton Harper Trimble III, and Charlton Trimble of Martinsville; one brother, Lee Sullenberger, Long Beach Calif; three half-brothers, Carl Sullenberger, Alexandria, Lloyd Sullenberger and Don Sullenberger of Monterey. Among the out of town funeral attendants were: Mr. and Mrs. K. H. Trimble, Mr. Richard Trimble, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Kellam, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sullenberger; two cousins, Mrs. Willis Jackson, Coatsville, Pa., and Mrs. Randolph Myers of Washington who motored to Monterey for the sad occasion. Funeral services were held at the Monterey Southern Methodist church Monday at two o’clock. The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. John Light and the Rev. A. E. Johnson of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Trimble was a great lover of fine poetry and as a tribute to her memory the following lines from Tennysons “In Memoriam” and from “The Chambered Nautilus” by Holmes were read. Trimble Montereyans do not recall a time in the history of the town when there were two open graves in the cemetery waiting to receive the remains of two prominent citizens on the same day as was the case on Thursday and Friday last. Hardly had the news of Mr. Wilson's death reached the limits of the county when the announcement of Dr. Trimble's death was heard, taking place a few hours later at his home on South Spruce street. As most of his friends know, Dr. Trimble had been in declining health for several months, his condition becoming grave and serious last fall. He spent several weeks at the Staunton hospital, receiving treatment, and was temporarily benefited. Since his return, how, ever, the greater part of his time was spent in his room and bed. On Thursday evening he became worse and passed away at an early hour Friday morning, sitting in his chair, while kind friends watched with him through the night. Dr. Kenton Harper Trimble was a son of the late James Trimble, born in the Monterey community and was almost 58 years of age. Surviving him are the following near relatives: An aged mother and one brother, Jas. A. Trimble, who reside at the old home near town; one sister, Mrs. P. Edgar Hull, of Kansas; his wife, whose maiden name was Sullenberger, and three children K. H., Junior, Alma and Richard. Dr. Trimble was a graduate of the University of Virginia and took a postgraduate course in New York. Immediately after graduation, and when a comparatively young man, he located at Monterey for the practice of his profession, and remained here until his death. As a physician he was eminently successful, and scarcely a home in Highland but that has had occasion to appreciate his faithful effort to alleviate suffering, his kindness and sympathy in hours of trouble and suffering. For something like a quarter of a century he enjoyed a large practice, and the warm friendships formed during those years were evidence by a large attendance from various sections of the county on the occasion of his funeral.
