Noyes, 93, of Woodbine, Iowa, formerly of Valley, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Alegent Health Community Memorial Hospital in . Mona Speer was born July 29, 1910, in West Point. She grew up in Springfield, S.D., where she attended grade school. She graduated from Valley High School in 1929. While in South Dakota, she lived with her family on the farm. She married Edward Noyes on April 4, 1930, at the courthouse in Sterling, Colo. Prior to her marriage, she worked for an Ord doctor, who took out her tonsils for free as a wedding gift. After her marriage, she was a homemaker and helped her spouse on the farm. They raised their family in the Valley area. After her children were grown, she took various jobs in the area. She and her husband sold fruit and vegetables from a truck garden. She was active in the Bunco-Tripoli Card Club for 54 years, and the extension club and Eastern Star. She and her spouse played pinochle every week for 25 years with their Omaha friends. Survivors include: a son, Allen (and wife, Pat) Noyes of Valley; two daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Herb) Harris of Woodbine and Carolyn (Mrs. Glen) Gabriel of Phoenix; two brothers, James Speer of Lafayette, Colo. and Lyle Speer of Salida, Colo.; a sister, Betty Casavant of Canon Beach, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, two brothers and a granddaughter. The funeral will start at 2 p.m. Monday at Baptist-Presbyterian Church in Valley with the Rev. Carl Ratcliff officiating.
