Read More	PIONEER RESIDENT DIES HERE SATURDAY M. L. Spangler, pioneer resident of Walnut, died at his home in this city Saturday, January 30, at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 2 days. About 11 years ago he suffered a stroke which left him partially paralyzed. On Monday, January 25 he was taken seriously ill. Monroe L. Spangler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Spangler, was born December 28, 1847 at Meyerstown, Pa. He came to Iowa City in May 1868 and in April 1873 located in Walnut where he had lived ever since. He formed a partnership with W. S. Packard and opened a general store. In 1883 the partnership was dissolved and he went into the clothing business for himself. Later he sold the clothing store and became a grain buyer, and after a number of years entered the real estate and insurance business. On March 4, 1880 he was married to Miss Jennie Hines of Avoca at St. Joseph, Mo. To this union five children were born. Three sons, Harry, Fred and Robert, preceded their father in death. He leaves to mourn, his beloved wife, one son, Frank Spangler of Davis, Ill., one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Matthies of Walnut, and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, the Rev. Wm. Krummel of the Evangelical church officiating. Burial was made in the Walnut cemetery.
