Description	:	Morris Delbert (Bill) Stillabower born August 20th, 1904 died June 15th 1975. Began working on Nickle Plate Railroad after Sophomore year at Tipton High School. As a young man he was a member of a "club" who called themselves the "West End Hellcats". Morris was an avid trapper, hunter, fisherman, and sports fan. Began working on Nickle Plate Railroad after Sophomore year at Tipton High School. As a young man he was a member of a "club" who called themselves the "West End Hellcats". Morris was an avid trapper, hunter, fisherman, and sports fan. He also played baseball with the city leagues during the 1920's. He and Clara would ride the Interurban cars from Tipton to Indianapolis to shop and attend events. He fixed tires later on from the back porch of a house that he rented. Joined the Army Air Corp during WW2 and was later honorably discharged during the war to work on the rail road. Worked as a yard clerk during the war at the Newport Indiana Army Depot. After war he ran the Standard Oil Station on West side of Tipton. "Bill" was nicknamed by his sisters. He had a photographic memory which made him a unbeatable poker player. About 1947 he started Bill's OK Tire Shop on the West Side. He kept the local farmers supplied with repaired and retreaded tires during the war. Bill and Gwen had two children, Morris Dee and Susan Kay. Retired from tire business in 1973. Bill was lifelong member of the ELK's and was a member of the American Legion. In 1927 Bill and his niece Elizabeth Dolan were the president and secretary for the Stillabower family reunion. Bill, Dorthy Francis Smith, and Denzil Graf were injured when a roadster driven by Denzil was forced off the road near the 7th Day Adventists School on Highway 19 North of Cicero on 7/08/1929. Bill played in local baseball leadgues during the 30's and attended the 1930 World Series. During this time he was employer by the Nickel Plate Railroad. During the period of the depression he gave up this job to prevent bumping a man with a large family. He fixed tires later on from the back porch of a house that he rented. Bill took over the operation of the gas station on the west side of Tipton 5/23/1935. Bill was an avid bowler who lead the local league to win 10/13/1942. Called in for his medical October 13th 1942 and then joined the Army Air Corp during WW2 and was later honorably discharged during the war to work on rail road. Worked is a yard clerk during the war at the Newport Indiana Army Depot. During the war Bill's nephew Charles Edward Dolan ran Bill's tire repair operations. After war ran Gas Station on West side of Tipton. George Ogden took over the station in Oct 1942. "Bill" was nicknamed by his sisters. Bill held the bowling score record at the Bowl-A-Drome in Tipton for three consecutive games. Two perfect games followed by a near perfect game. Retired from this in 1973. Bill was lifelong member of the ELK's and was a member of the VFW. K. RUBBER WELDING — I have Bill Stillabower's equipment and will attempt to take care of his business at 234 E. Madison street; 9 am to 2pm daily; tires must be dismounted. Charles Dolan. 1st Wife Margaret Call Stillabower (Peg) Married June 16th 1936. They eloped to Louisville KY on 6-18-1935 surprising numerous family and friends and were married by W G linderman. Olive Overdorf was the witness. They were cited by the newspaper as some of the most popular young people in Tipton. He has just taken over the gas station combined restaurant called Bunch's Lunches and they lived in an upstairs apartment. During this period Bill gave up employment by Standard Oil company to run his new endeavor. Bill ran the service side and Margaret ran the restaurant and planted flowers around the stations grounds. They separated Oct 27th 1940. Margaret filed for divorce Oct 29th 1940 siting incompatibility of temper and disposition. He had no children from his first marriage (divorced 1945 in Kokomo). This was also Isabel's second marriage with no children from the first marriage to a Wood. Gwen's father Frederick James Martin May 10th 1889 - Feb 10th, 1951 (buried Albright Cemetery Kokomo Indiana unmarked grave NE corner). Gwen's mother Edith Lorena Ramey Martin was buried at Bookside Cemetery Windfall Indiana North side as Edith Ryan (Jan 23rd. 1896 – March 14th. 1971). (She married Arthur Ryan who proceeded her in death). Gwen's paternal grandparents were Joseph Martin and Ida May Cox. Gwen's maternal grandparents were Oscar Ramey and Maude Bragg. Gwen's Siblings were James Richard Martin (1923 – 1974), Lorene Kathryn Martin Deakyne (1922 - 2008), Bernice Gail Martin Smith (1916 – 1941), and Ella Mae Martin (1918 – 1940) During the Second World War, Gwen worked at Delco Radio Plant #1 on Firmin Avenue in Kokomo, building RADAR jamming equipment for the war effort. Gwendolyn lived at 218 East Taylor in Kokomo when she applied for her marriage license on Oct 17, 1947. Her father Fred was living in Center and her mother Edith was living with Edith's half sister Garnet on South Independence. Gwen belonged to the Moose Lodge of Tipton. She was a skilled seamstress who made many items for her family and friends. She also was skilled at crocheting and made several afghan blankets for family. She loved playing euchre with friends and family and could be found playing several times per week at card clubs. Gwen was known to her family and friends as "Aunt Izzy". Her egg noodles were famous amongst family and she was an adept cook. 05/16/1975 Tipton Tribune Morris "Bill" Stillabower, 70, Route 3, Tipton, died at 10:05 a.m. Sunday in Tipton County Memorial Hospital following an illness of seven months. Born in Tipton County (needs verification) on August 20th, 1904, he was the son of Jacob and Clara Mae Singer Stillabower. He was wed in 1947 to Gwendolyn Isabel Martin who survives. Mr. Stillabower was a life long resident of Tipton where he owned and operated Bill's OK Tire Shop for 30 years. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, the Elks lodge, and the American Legion. Surviving with his wife are a son, Morris D. Sillabower of Marysville, Ohio and a daughter , Mrs. Guy (Susan) Kirby Route 1, Tipton. A grandson also survives. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Mitchell Funeral Home. Reverend Charles Fields will officiate and burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
