Description	:	Mortimer C. Dally was born November 15, 1857, in Harrison County, Iowa, the second of six children and first son born to John W and Ruth Ann Goodrich Dally. Mortimer, with his parents and siblings, Florence B, Frank M, Dora M, Maggie Evelyn (who died at nineteen months of age) and Mary Mae, lived in Magnolia. After the death of Mortimer's mother in 1865, the family moved to Woodbine in Boyer Township. In 1884, Mortimer along with a partner, established Patterson, Dally & Co., a general store in Dunlap. Dally, of the firm of Patterson, Dally & Co., dealers in general merchandise, was born in Hamilton County, Iowa, in 1857; came to Harrison County with parents in 1859. He was book-keeper for Mitchell & Laub, for three and one-half years previous to engaging in his present business." In 1886, Mortimer married Elizabeth (Bessie) M Barrett. They had two children, Frank B and Rose Marie. In 1905, Patterson, Dally & Co. became M.C. Dally Hardware Co., a company dealing in farm implements, vehicles and hardware. Also in 1905, Mortimer became a Township Officer of Harrison Iowa, Trustee of Dunlop and a School Officer of Harrison Iowa, Director. Mortimer died on May 28, 1947, at the age of 89. Dunlap Reporter June 5, 1947 Page 1 "Last Rites Held For M. C. Dally Here Saturday Longtime Dunlap Resident Dies in Hospital Funeral services were held here Saturday afternoon for M. C. Dally, 89, long-time Dunlap resident and business man, following his death in St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha about 7 o'clock Wednesday evening, May 28. Death followed a cerebral hemorrhage suffered by Mr. Dally late Friday night from which he failed to rally. He was taken to the hospital early the next morning, May 24, where he passed away the following Wednesday, at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 13 days. Funeral services were held at the Dally home with Rev. E. Leo Ford officiating and interment was made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, beside his wife who preceded him in death in 1938. Mortimer C. Dally was born November 15, 1857 in Homer, Hamilton County, Iowa, but came to Harrison County as a child with his parents living first at River Sioux and then in Magnolia, where his father operated a general store back in Civil War days and when Magnolia was the county seat. He received his high school education in Magnolia, later completing a business course in a Keokuk college. He came to Dunlap when he was 18 years of age about 1875, where for several years he was employed as clerk and bookkeeper in general stores in the community. In 1892, he established a hardware store and for the past 55 years had been engaged in that line of business. He had been a member of the Masonic lodge for over 50 years and had attended a meeting of the order earlier in the evening of the same night he was stricken at his home about midnight. January 9, 1886, he was united in marriage to Bessie M. Barrett who preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Frank B. Dally, who has been associated with him in the hardware business here for many years. Also a daughter, Marie D., Mrs. L. G. Cover of Cleveland, Ohio. Also surviving are two sisters: Mrs. W. D. Cromie, 91 of Sioux City and Mrs. Summy of Primghar. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Barrett Funeral Home." Interment: Block 17, Row 1, Pleasant Hill Cemetery
