Noll departed this life Friday evening after a brief illness of a couple of days. Mr. Noll came from Perry county, Penn., to this state some ten or eleven years ago, and settled in our midst. In his various business transactions he has made many warm friends. He was a consistent member of the Evangelical church, and had but lately joined the order of the A.O.U.W. of this place. He will be buried in the honors of that order in the Americus cemetery to-morrow about 12 o'clock. He leaves a wife, two children and a large circle of sympathizing friends to mourn his loss. _____ Mr. M. F. Noll was buried in the Americus cemetery yesterday, at 12:30. The members of the A.O.U.W. wearing the insignia of the order, formed in a procession at the burial place and conducted the ceremonies. The scene was indeed an affecting one. Hundreds assembled to witness and pay tribute to the memory of their departed friend. The funeral cortege was the largest one that ever left Americus, eighty-five vehicles following the remains to their final resting place. The funeral services were held by the Rev. J. M. Dreisback at the United Presbyterian church. -The Emporia Daily News, 24 May 1881, Tuesday _____ Letters of administration granted to D. P. Tressler, in the estate of Moses F. Noll, and John L. Butler, Oscar Lambert and William P. Lewis appointed as appraisers of the estate. -The Emporia Weekly News, 27 May 1881, Friday _____ Thanks to contributor Dennis Brandt for the following: The son of Michael & Lydia (Shaffner) Noll, in 1860 his farming family was residing in Tyrone Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, but he is not shown in the census living with them. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Perry County at the stated age of twenty-two August 5, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 11 as a private with Co. G, 133rd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 26, 1863. He married Elizabeth Rebecca Dumm and fathered Fannie (b. 02/19/63), John D. (b. 11/12/65, d. 11/26/65), Willie S. (b. 02/20/67, d. 11/26/71), and Harvey Loy (b. 07/16/73). Somewhere around 1872, he moved his family to Americus, Lyon County, Kansas, where he died at age 37-10-3 from "congestiveness of the stomach," that according to his obituary, which further surmised his fatality came from drinking cold water after he had become overheated working in his fields. The the birth date shown above is probably incorrect. It appears more likely that he was born ca. 1841.
