Description	:	Moses Frederick Howell was born April 1 1868 and his original name was Frederick Moses Howell. He went by the name Moses Frederick Howell and changed his birthday to July 28, 1867. He was the son of Frederick P. Howell and Eliza Ann Hoover. Moses married Catharine Ader Clawson (Clausen), the daughter of William Clawson (Clausen) and Mary M. Ader. He was the son of Frederick P. Howell and Eliza Ann Hoover. Moses married Catharine Ader Clawson (Clausen), the daughter of William Clawson (Clausen) and Mary M. Ader. Moses and Catharine were married by Isaac D. Horton. The couple had five children listed below in the order of their births: William Cleveland Howell, Sr. June 23, 1889 - March 21, 1941 Mary Jane Howell Frace May 15, 1890 - May 19, 1982 Grace Mae Howell Burd June 6, 1893 - December 9, 1985 Mabel Florence Howell Van Pelt February 24, 1897 - February 27, 1983 Ervilla Ethel Howell Fisler March 22, 1903 - February 6, 1985 The family homestead was located in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey in German Valley (now Long Valley). The homestead remained in the family till 1955 when it was sold. In the valley the family church was the First Presbyterian Church of Fairmont, New Jersey. As a child Ervilla Ethel (Howell) Fisler could remember their minister as being the Rev. Baker Smith. She spoke extremely well of him and says he would come and ride the family to church in his horse and wagon whenever there was bad weather. Moses Howell supported his family by working on a farm owned by a neighbor down the road from the homestead. On the homestead the family is said to have had a cow and raised guinea hens, but only for family use. Moses Frederick Howell died on November 18, 1951 in Belford, New Jersey in the home of his daughter Ervilla Ethel Howell Fisler. Catharine Ader Clawson Howell died on July 18, 1929 in the home of her daughter Ervilla Ethel Howell Fisler in Matawan, New Jersey, of stomach cancer. Bedle Funeral Home was ahead of her funeral and Scott Funeral Home of Belford, New Jersey was ahead of Moses burial. The 1910 Census list Catharine Howell as having given birth to five children and that all 5 were still alive which rules out any stillbirths and/or infant deaths unless they occurred after 1910. In should be noted that Moses and Catherine raised two of their granddaughters. Howell Moses F. Howell, 79, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 1951, at the home of his daughter. Mrs. Edward Fisler, Belford after a long illness. He was born in Long Valley, the son of the late Frederick and Liza (Hoover) Howell. Surviving besides Mrs. Fisler, are three other daughters, Mrs. Mary Frace and Mrs. Mabel VanPelt, both of Matawan, and Mrs. Grace Burd, Califon: 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services were under direction of the Scott Funeral Home, Belford.
