Mr. McDonnell was born February 23, 1873, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Moses McDonnell. He is survived by two brothers, Jas. and Jerry, of Garryowen; three sisters, Mrs. Jerry Anglin and Mrs. Martin Crane, both of Maquoketa; and Kate of Garryowen. Three sisters preceded him in death. The casket bearers were Wilfred McDonnell, Vern McCarthy, Frank Meloy, Leo Noonan, Chris Donovan, Jerry Ahern, Neil McDonnell and Albert Beauchamp. Mr. McDonnell was one of the beloved characters of the Bernard-Garryowen community and his death is deeply mourned by everyone who knew him intimately. Of keen wit and joviality, he had an acquaintance all through his life which found his popularity in the galaxy of friends he left behind when he departed this life following only a two weeks illness as a result of a severe cold.
