Born in Inman on Nov. 14, 1931, Mrs. Rhodes was a daughter of the late John Benjamin Pettit and the late Cornelia Hutcherson Pettit. Read More	Mrs. Peggy Adelle Pettit Rhodes, age, 71, of 301 Green Pond Road, Anderson, devoted wife and mother, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at Hospice House in Anderson. Born in Inman on Nov. 14, 1931, Mrs. Rhodes was a daughter of the late John Benjamin Pettit and the late Cornelia Hutcherson Pettit. She was a graduate of Girls High School in Anderson and was a homemaker. Mrs. Rhodes was a devoted Christian and lived her life in service for God. Her church family was an integral part of her life. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday schoolteacher, was children's divisional director, was leader of the W.M.U for a number of years, was in charge of vacation Bible school for a number of years and was active in all phases of New Prospect Baptist Church. Deeply loved by her large family and countless friends, survivors include her husband, Harold D. "Hap" Rhodes of the home; sons, Harold D. "Hal" Rhodes and his wife, Tona M. Rhodes, of Greenville, and Phillip Brian Rhodes and his wife, Marie R. Rhodes, of Anderson; a daughter, Shannon Rhodes Proffitt and her husband, Michael D. Proffitt, of Greenville; a brother, Marvin Terry Pettit of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Sheila Pettit Phillips of Anderson; and four grandchildren, Allison Rhodes Labovitz and her husband, Joe Labovitz, of Charlotte, Eli Rhodes of Anderson, Melissa Rhodes of Anderson, and Michaela Proffitt, of Greenville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Caleb Ryan "Cale" Rhodes, in 1998; a brother, John Pettit; and two sisters, Mary Pettit Fitzpatrick and Grace Pettit Lyman. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 19, 2003, at New Prospect Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Tom Turner. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The W.M.U. and the Lola Shirley Sunday school class will serve as honorary escort. The body is at The McDougald Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. today. The family will be at the residence: 301 Green Pond Road, Anderson. Mrs. Rhode's strength, character and devotion to all she so deeply loved are an inspiration to all who knew her. Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church "Together We Build" Fund, 2503 Whitehall Road, Anderson, SC 29625; or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621. The McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson is in charge of arrangements.
