(When the birth was registered no name was recorded just the parents surnames GRANT/VANZANT and clearly show F for female as to sex of the child) Through The Years, Vol. VIII, No. II, December 1990, page 32 Perishes in Wednesday's Blizzard at Meldrum Bay - 1939 Believed to have lost her way in the blizzard that swept over Manitoulin last Wednesday the frozen body of Mrs. Archie Stephens was discovered on the ice about two miles from the village of Meldrum Bay on Thursday afternoon about 5:30 o'clock. George Williams and George Everett, wood cutters, crossed Meldrum Bay Thursday morning, on their way to work and noticed a dark object lying in the snow. When the object remained in the same place as they returned from work they investigated and found the frozen body of the woman. According to her husband, Archie Stephens, his wife has left her home about 11 a.m. Wednesday in a raging storm, to visit at the home of a neighbour, Mrs. Edith Gareau, who lives three quarters of a mile distant. When she did not return home enquiries were instituted but it was not until the discovery on Thursday that her fate became known. Provincial Constable Carmichael accompanied by inspector A.R. Knight of Sudbury flew to Meldrum Bay on Friday and brought the body to Gore Bay where a post mortem examination was held and the body released for burial. An inquest will be held as soon as traveling conditions permit. Mrs. Stephens was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Grant of Meldrum Bay and is survived by her husband and three small children.
