Description	:	Muriel Arlene (Strand) Rabe was born in Uehling, Nebraska on November 4, 1919 to Barton and Carrie (Erickson) Strand. She passed away December 22, 2016 at Oakland Heights in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 97. She attended Uehling Elementary School until the third grade. Her family moved to a farm south of Uehling; she then went to school at District #84 in Dodge County and later graduated from Uehling High School in 1936. Read More	Muriel Arlene (Strand) Rabe was born in Uehling, Nebraska on November 4, 1919 to Barton and Carrie (Erickson) Strand. She passed away December 22, 2016 at Oakland Heights in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 97. She attended Uehling Elementary School until the third grade. Her family moved to a farm south of Uehling; she then went to school at District #84 in Dodge County and later graduated from Uehling High School in 1936. On March 28, 1940, Muriel and Willis William George Rabe were united in marriage at the Uehling Congregational Church in Uehling, Nebraska. They lived in Burbank, California, and after six months, they returned to Nebraska to farm. They farmed in Burt County from 1941 through 1973. They moved into Oakland in 1986. Muriel worked at the Uehling Co-op, at the Fremont Dodge County ASCS office and as a maid in Omaha. Muriel was baptized, confirmed and belonged to the Uehling Congregational Church. She taught Sunday school for 40 years, sang in the choir, belonged to the women’s fellowship, taught bible school and served as Clerk of the church. She was a devout Christian woman. She was a member of the Uehling American Legion Auxiliary Post #196 for 75 years, where she held all offices. Muriel helped organize, and served as a leader for, the Peppey Doers 4-H Club. She also served on the Burt County Extension Council for 10 years. She belonged to the Neighborhood Harmony Club, participated in several card clubs and was on the first Board of Directors of the Oakland Swedish Center. In 2011 she was Queen of the Oakland Swedish Festival. Muriel was very proud of her heritage; she traveled to Sweden twice in her lifetime. She collected an abundance of information on both she and Willis’ heritage, and composed a beautiful, priceless, hardbound book. Muriel’s greatest love was her family. She treasured the time spent with them, most especially the holidays. She enjoyed baking and sewing; she crafted several handmade quilts. She loved to dance; Muriel and Willis took the opportunity to go dancing whenever possible. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Mick Tietjen; son, Barry Rabe; grandson, Marty Tietjen; granddaughter, Jamie Marie Rabe; twin great grandsons, Clinton and Jacob Dortch; brother, Gerald (Betty) Strand. She is survived by her children, Randall (Sharon) Rabe of Greer, SC, Carrie (Chatman) Mertes of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Angie (Christian) Fox Blochlinger of Houston, TX, Kent Tietjen of South Sioux City, NE, Kelly (Jim) Dortch of Fremont, NE, Leah (Luke) Ruggles of Wakeeney, KS, Jane (Clayton) Nincehelser of Springfield, NE, Lisa Skaff of Wichita, Jordan Skaff of Wichita, Marie Skaff of Overland Park, KS, Andrew Skaff of Wichita; step grandchildren, Donald Cole of Commerce Township, MI, Debbie Cole of Concorde, NC, Misti (Jason) DeBerry of Wichita, Chad Mertes of Spokane, WA, Brady (Ginny) Mertes of Andover, KS, Katie Mertes of Wichita; great grandchildren, Nichole (Jeramy) Witham of Auburn, WA, Gage Tietjen of South Sioux City, Laiken Tietjen of South Sioux City, Karlie Dortch of Fremont, Evie Dortch of Fremont, Faye Barry Nincehelser of Springfield; 12 step great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren.
