Thomazin, daughter of John R. and Sadie Dunlap Thomazin, was born in Platte County, Nebraska, October 18, 1886 and passed away March 16, 1967 at the Behlen Memorial Hospitla [sic]in Columbus, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 26 days. Muriel moved with her parents to a farm south of St. Edward in 1902. She attended the St. Edward Schools and graduated with the class of 1906. She is the first deceased member of this class. After graduation from high school she moved to University Place in Lincoln, Nebr., where she attended Wesleyan University. She majored in music and served as organist of the Fourth Presbyterian Church. Following graduation from Wesleyan she was employed at the bank in University Place. After the death of her mother, she moved with her father to Columbus where they lived for a number of years. Following her father's death at Columbus, she moved to Albion and cared for her aunt, Mrs. Robert Gillespie, for twelve years, coming to St. Edward to live in 1953. She continued to hold her membership in the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Lincoln and was an associate member of the First Presbyterian Church at St. Edward. She is survived by her aunt, Mrs. A. H. Backus of Blair, Nebr., a number of cousins and a host of friends. Services were held Monday, March 20, 1967 at the St. Edward Presbyterian Church at 2:15 p.m. with the Rev. Gene Boger in charge. Mrs. Neal Hasselbalch and Mrs. Glenn Larson, accompanied by Mrs Gordon Matzen, sang "All the Way My Saviour Leads Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were Wilbur Thomazin, Glenn Thomazin, Delbert Thomazin, Edgar Thomazin, Vern Force and Howard Gillespie. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
