Description	:	Mrs. Muriel McKinney Hoppes, age 92, of Nebo, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at her home. Born in Mitchell County on June 24, 1923, Muriel was the daughter of the late Brisco McKinney and Ester Collis McKinney. During her life, Muriel had a love for music and art. The walls of her home feature some of her original paintings, which were mostly inspired by nature. Read More	Mrs. Muriel McKinney Hoppes, age 92, of Nebo, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at her home. Born in Mitchell County on June 24, 1923, Muriel was the daughter of the late Brisco McKinney and Ester Collis McKinney. During her life, Muriel had a love for music and art. The walls of her home feature some of her original paintings, which were mostly inspired by nature. When she wasn’t painting or drawing, she was writing in one of her many notebooks about her day and the way her children and grandchildren were growing. She also had a passion for music and played the guitar. Most of the photos from Muriel’s unmarried years show her and her siblings strumming away on their guitars. Her love of music was the way that she met her husband, Tull, and together the two enjoyed playing and singing. Although she worked several jobs after getting married, Muriel was mainly a homemaker, especially in her later years. She enjoyed taking care of her children, and later, keeping her grandchildren, who formed a special bond with Muriel because of her never-failing love and kindness. In addition to her parents, Muriel is preceded in death by her husband, Tull C. Hoppes, and a daughter, Beverly Hoppes Hollifield. Muriel is survived by two daughters, Patricia Hoppes Daniels, of the home, and Rena Hoppes Shade and husband Leroy of Morganton. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Kimberly Scism, LaDonna Hollifield, Kevin Benton, Adam Shade, Landdis Hollifield and Laque Hollifield, and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service in memory of Muriel will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 2:00pm at her church, Nebo Crossing Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Collis Cemetery. Source Citation: Westmoreland Funeral Home
