Myrtle was the eldest daughter of John and Anna (Samp) Conboy, born January 16, 1916, in Volga City. Two sisters died in infancy. Her husband, Norbert Niemeyer, preceded her in death on December 13, 1995. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Dougherty of Red Wing, Minnesota, formerly of Anamosa. She is also survived by five children: John and his wife Mary Fran of Egan, Minnesota, Ann Glenn and her husband Gary of DeKalb, Illinois, Mary Harstad and her husband Don of Elkader, Nicholas of San Francisco, California, and Susan Bryant of Austin, Texas; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three nephews and one niece. She was graduated from Volga City High School and worked in the telephone office there and in Strawberry Point until her marriage. On May 17, 1938, she and Norb were united in marriage and began their married life in Elkader. In the community, she was an active member of Proteus Club, Central Community Hospital Auxiliary and St. Joseph's Catholic Church Guild. Myrtle was instrumental in the establishment of the Carter House Museum and was a founding member of the first Elkader Chapter of Questers. An avid antique collector and interior decorator, she was employed by McTaggart's Furniture Store, The Sunshine Shop and The Buttery. In accordance with her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Iowa Medical School.
