Myrtle Chancellor Clegg was born October 11, 1891 in South Sioux City, Nebraska to Henry and Mary Clegg. At the age of two years, she moved with her parents to St. Lawrence, South Dakota, where she grew to womanhood. On November 28, 1916, she was married to James "Ray" Shoop. They resided in Havre, Montana and Portland, Oregon until after the end of World War. I They returned to St. Lawrence where they raised their family of five children. In 1947 Myrtle and Ray moved to Wichita, Kansas. After Ray's death in 1950, Myrtle continued to live there until January 1984, when she entered Prairie Good Samaritan Center. While living in St. Lawrence, Myrtle was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Community Church. In Wichita, she attended Wichita Bible Church. She also was a member of Gold Star Mothers and Degree of Honor. Survivors include two daughters, Alice Louise (Mrs. Jerome Byron) of Skokie, Illinois, and Marian Carol (Mrs. David Aufderhar), Bellevue, Washington; a sister, Mrs. Annie Fremark, Miller; a brother, Frank Clegg, St. Lawrence; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1950; three sons, James M. in 1944, Frank "Burdell" in 1983 and Herbert Wayne in 1984, and her parents. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27, 1985 at St. Lawrence Community Church with Rev. Richard Ransom officiating. Burial was in the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Byron, Wilbur Fremark, Kevin Clegg, Daniel Byron, Brice Clegg and David Fremark.
