Read More	Smith, Myrtle 1888 - 1945 B5 L27 -------- Cherokee Daily Times: Oct 19, 1945: Page 2 Myrtle Glidewell, daughter of Susie and Monroe Glidewell, was born on a farm in Silver township, Cherokee, Iowa, November 22, 1888, and passed away Wednesday October 3, 1945 at the St. Joseph's hospital Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 56 years, 10 months and 19 days. She spent her early girlhood on that same farm in Silver growing up with the companionship of the other young people in the vicinity and making friendships which have endured throughout her lifetime. On June 6, 1906, she was united in marriage to William Vere Smith, also of Silver, and with her husband, she moved to a farm in Willow township, where they spent all but the last 5 years of their married life. To this happy union were born three daughters, Mabel Clark, Mildred and Verline, all of Quimby. In 1940 they moved to Quimby where they were residing at the time of her death. Always a faithful Christian, she was a member of the Quimby Methodist church. It is almost an impossible task for one so close to her to find words to eulogize her life. Now, if ever, comes the time when words are futile things when all the learned men in the world could not have found the words which could adequately express her dearness, her sympathy, her undertaking, her unselfish devotion which extended not only to her own family, but to everyone within the almost unsurpassable bounds of her heart. To know her was in itself a privilege, but to have loved her, and to have been loved by her was one of the greatest gifts God could have granted a family. Her eulogy has been written—not by pen, but by her deeds, by her untiring but unassuming service to those in need of help—when the giving of it meant taxing a failing strength to beyond its limits. A future without her is a future almost too dark to face, but we cannot be sorry for her—only for ourselves—who must somehow find the strength to pick up our lives again,—empty things though they may be—and carry on without her. But—were we less brave than she we should disgrace her memory, for hers was a gallant, unfaltering life, in which weakness had no part. She has truly set the pattern for us. Besides her devoted husband and daughters, she leaves to mourn her death two grand-daughters, Sharon Marie and Colleen Kay Clark; her mother, Mrs. Susie Glidewell of Quimby; five brothers, Abe, Elmer and Roy of Cherokee, Charles of Pipestone, Minn., and Walter of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Amanda Hickman of Quimby, and an innumerable host of other relatives and friends
