Death struck swiftly today (Wednesday) to claim long time pioneer resident of Corson County in her home in Lemmon. She resided in the Bailey Apartments. Mr. and Mrs. Bailey had heard her walking around her apartment a few minutes before, they went to call on her and found her expired sitting in a chair at about 12:20 p.m. She had been in failing health for the last few weeks. Requiem high mass was sung at St. Mary's Catholic Church Monday at 9 a.m. for Mrs. Fred (Myrtle) F.D. Winter, pioneer resident of western Corson County and of Lemmon, who died suddenly at her home Sepetmeber 7, 1960, following a heart attack. Rev. Paul G. Dahms,assistant pastor of the church was the celebrant. The junior choir sang. Paul bearers were Paul O'Donnell, John O'Donnell, Vincent O'Donnell, Earl Ring, Marcus Burke and Matt Goeres. Mrs. Winter was born Myrtle Mary Davis in Flandreau, South Dakota the daughter of William Henry and Anna Agnes (Keating) Davis. She was educated in the schools of Moody County and attended General Beadle Teachers College in Madison, South Dakota. She taught for three years in country schools in Corson County. She married Fred F.D. Winter in Aberdeen, South Dakota on October 12, 1912. They returned to Morristown to make their home on a claim. Through the years she was active in the community and in helping her husband and family to develop a fine farmstead. In 1939, she and Mr. Winter moved to McIntosh. They resided there while he held several county offices and was active in the ASC. In 1956, the purchased a home here and moved to Lemmon. There they resided there until the death of Mr. Winter on March 4, 1959. Surviving relatives include three sons, Daniel and Phillip of Morristown, Fred W. of Jordan, Montana, two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Jenson of Morristown and Mrs. Sheldon Peters of Seattle, Washington. Eleven grand children include, David, Anita, Cindy, Denise, Douglas and Deborah Winter, Richard and Beverly Jenson all of Morristown. Kevin and Byron Winter of Jordan, Montana and Kurt Merkel of Seattle, Washington. And three sisters, Mrs. John Casey of Madison, S. D., Mrs. Theron Pitts of Porterville, Ca. and Mrs. F. E. O'Donnell of Morristown. Coming from a distance to attend the funeral were Mrs. Peters of Seattle, Wa., Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Winter of Jordan, Montana, Mr. and Mrs. John Casey of Madison, S.D., Mr.L.H. Smith, Mrs. Jack Henning and Miss Eileen Henning of Hillsboro, N.D., Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ring of Dickinson, Miss Margaret Henning of Bowman and Mr. and Mrs. Paul O'Donnell of Rapid City.
