Description	:	Myrtle Howard Collins, daughter of Harvey Howard and Angeline Waldo Howard, was born Feb. 12, 1872, near Evansville, Wis. She was one of the family of seven children and had three brothers and three sisters. Her early life was spent on a farm and she attended rural school. Read More	Myrtle Howard Collins, daughter of Harvey Howard and Angeline Waldo Howard, was born Feb. 12, 1872, near Evansville, Wis. She was one of the family of seven children and had three brothers and three sisters. Her early life was spent on a farm and she attended rural school. When she was 14 years old her parents moved to South Dakota, settling near Lennox. It was her ambition to become a teacher, and when she was 18 years old she began to teach in the rural schools. A few years later she entered the State Normal school at Madisonville, S.D., to take special training for her profession. For 40 years she taught in the schools of South Dakota and Minnesota, studying and traveling during the summer months. During one period, she attended Teachers' college at Columbia University in New York City. her long tenure of service included 12 years in the schools of Sioux Falls, S.D., and more than 20 years in Duluth, Minn., where she was located when she retired in 1931. She was united in marriage to Emmor Collins Aug. 5, 1931, and came to Tipton to make her home. She was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church and active in the First Presbyterian Church of Tipton. During the 15 years of her residence in Tipton, she gave freely of time and talents in church and club work. She was exceedingly interested in her home, and during the years of her married life, made a pleasant home for her husband. For several years she has been in frail health, and March 8, 1946, she became seriously ill. Her death came at her home in Tipton July 10. She is survived by her husband, Emmor, A step-daughter, Florence Collins Weed of Evanston, Ill., two sisters, Mrs. Maud Lester of Trent, S.D., and Mrs. Lena Noahr of Orland, Calif., and two brothers, Herbert Howard of Estherville, and Jesse Howard of Le Mars, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the McCormick funeral Home in Tipton with burial in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery July 12.
