Born in Arcadia, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Millie Malinda Redmond McGarity. Miss McGarity moved to Greenville in 1922 and was valedictorian at Parker High School. She received an Associate Degree in Business from Winthrop College in 1929. As a young woman, she joined the Red Cross for overseas service to the Armed Forces during World War II. Read More	Source: The Greenville News: 09-28-2009 Myrtle McGarity Easley Miss Myrtle McGarity, 98, of Easley, died Saturday, September 26th, 2009. Born in Arcadia, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Millie Malinda Redmond McGarity. Miss McGarity moved to Greenville in 1922 and was valedictorian at Parker High School. She received an Associate Degree in Business from Winthrop College in 1929. As a young woman, she joined the Red Cross for overseas service to the Armed Forces during World War II. She was awarded the presidential Medal of Freedom for Services to Armed Forces by order of the President and Command of General MacArthur. Miss McGarity retired from the Greenville Hospital System as Director of Materiel Services. She assisted in Organizing and was the first President of GHS Employees Credit Union. She also assisted and was the first President of the SC Hospital Division of Purchasing. She was a volunteer with the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Surviving are a daughter, Fran Knight and her husband Billy of Simpsonville; nieces and nephews, Linda B. Dobson of Easley, Randolph Bryant, Jeanne Snyder, Dianne Bryant, Donna Weddington, Elsie Ann Felix, Pat Flanagan and Pat McGarity and a grandson, Jeremy Knight of Charleston. Graveside services will be Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Springwood Cemetery with Dr. Baxter M. Wynn officiating. The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.
