Mrs. Dickey, who had died late Monday afternoon at the Iowa Soldiers Home hospital, was laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery by the side of her husband, whose body was laid to rest with military honors here in 1925. The services were attended by a large group of relatives and old neighbors and friends who gathered to pay a tribute of respect to the aged pioneer. The following sketch of the life of the deceased, was read by the pastor. Mertie Sherman was born at Brunswick, Medina county, Ohio, in the year 1845, on April 27. There were eleven other children but all of these save one have preceded her passing, and he lives at the old family home. "She passed from this life at the Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown, Monday, Sept. 19, following an attack of apoplexy. She retained her faculties until the last, for at her passing her age 87 years, 4 months and 21 days. "Her marriage to Charles H. Dickey took place at McGregor, Iowa, on Jan. 14, 18696. And with her husband she began married life on a farm near Hazel Green, Iowa. Three years later they moved to Corning, Iowa. And in another 10 years they moved to Maxwell where they resided a score of years. The following two decades they lived at both Cambridge and Nevada. "After her husband passed away in 1925 she entered the Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown where she spent her remaining time, but frequently she visited at the homes of her children. "In their religious faith Mrs. Dickey's parents were Quakers, and in that faith she was reared. When grown to womanhood, she united with the Methodist Episcopal church, where the membership continued until the end. Also she was a charter member of the order of the Easter Star and of the Woman's Relief Corps of Maxwell. "Besides the mentioned brother who survives her there are her three children, the son, B. S. of Nevada; another son, Dr. C. G. Dickey of Des Moines and the daughter, Mrs. E. H. Dewel of Muskogee, Okla. Also there are nine grand children and one great grand child. Of course there are many friends who were won by her cheerful disposition. Many of these at the Home and many here and there. "Her devotion as a mother, her kindness as a relative and friend, her loyalty to the principles of a Christian causes her to live on among mankind even now when we lay away all that is mortal. She has heard and answered time's call; and without much prolonged care and sorrow she has entered the world of the infinite."
