Description	:	SHELBY-Myrtle Whitaker Price died peacefully Wednesday morning at Kings Mountain Hospice House attended by family members. Her unwavering faith, as throughout her life, was an inspiration to those who witnessed it. Myrtle was born to Fay and Oveda Whitaker on May 25, 1926. Read More	SHELBY-Myrtle Whitaker Price died peacefully Wednesday morning at Kings Mountain Hospice House attended by family members. Her unwavering faith, as throughout her life, was an inspiration to those who witnessed it. Myrtle was born to Fay and Oveda Whitaker on May 25, 1926. Others who preceded her to heaven were her husband of 56 years, Rev. Oliver Price, two brothers, Dr. Bruce Whitaker and Alvin Whitaker, one niece and two nephews. She is survived by her children, Patricia P. Benfield of Taylorsville, Judith Price of Carthage, and John Price of Shelby, two grandsons, Sean and Shane Benfield, Shane's wife, Tammy, and great-grandson Tyler. Sisters Margaret Wood, Betty Davis, Jean Humphries, Elizabeth Jones, and brother, John Whitaker and many nieces and nephews also mourn her passing. Mrs. Price loved the church and spent tireless hours serving in music ministry in every church she attended, beginning as pianist while a teenager at Sandy Plains Baptist, and concluding as pianist at Mt. Olivet Baptist in her early eighties. She graduated from Mooresboro High School, Gardner Webb College, Wake Forest College and also studied at Southern Baptist Seminary while her husband earned his divinity degree. Together, they served in several churches, he as pastor, she as choir director, sometimes pianist, and always as a spiritual inspiration through music. Many former students will remember her not only as classroom teacher but as chorus director. She retired after almost 30 years of teaching in public schools. Besides teaching and ministering through music, she spent most of her time in the kitchen, cooking for her family, and, in summer, freezing and canning endless vegetables from her husband's garden (and trying to give away the extras). Myrtle had a ready smile for every one she knew, even when she could no longer hear them, and an especially loving countenance for her children, an inviting sense of humor and twinkling eye. She made good and faithful friends in all her church homes, and left this world loved and respected by scores of friends, relatives, former students and former choir members. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service at the church - Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Ellenboro - Burial: Church cemetery Cecil M.
