March 1, 1904 - Carroll Sentinel - After many months of suffering, the last nine weeks being spent in bed, Mrs. A.A. Talbott passed away Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of her son Charles at Audubon, of cancer of the stomach. About Christmas time she went there for a short visit and was taken so ill that she was unable to return and during the past month has been unconscious practically all the time. She was brought to this city yesterday and the funeral services was held this afternoon at the M.E. church, Signet chapter O.E. of which she was a prominent member, joining in the services in her honor. Mrs. Talbott, nee Nancy Ann Greenlee, was a native of Ohio, born in Miami county, May 23, 1836. She was the oldest of thirteen children, having four brothers and four sisters still living, the only one residing in Carroll being Mrs. R.J. Patty. When nine years old her parents moved to Johnson county, Iowa, and a year later to Iowa county, where, almost fifty years ago, in November, 1854, she was married to A.A. Talbott, who survives her at the age of 78. Seven children survive their mother, viz: V.W. of Ames; J.P., 0.E., and R.L. of Audubon; Mrs. J.D. Stein, Mrs. G.M. Stanton, and Mrs. L.S. Mitchell of this city. In 1872 they moved to Carroll county, living on a farm south of Carroll for sixteen years, when they removed to this city, where they have since resided. During her protracted illness at Audubon, her son Worthy and wife, her brother and sister, W.B. Greenlee and Mrs. John Stewart of Belle Plaine, and Mr. Talbott's sister, Mrs. D.M. Haverly of Omaha, were with her and cared for her for several weeks before her death, while all the members of the family were unremitting in their efforts to alleviate her suffering. In her girlhood days when only 18, Mrs. Talbott united with the M.E. church and has been through all her long life a devout and faithful member. She was a prominent member of the Eastern Star and during her thirty-years of residence in this community she made scores of warm friends who unite with the immediate family at mourning her demise.
