Description	:	Nancy Ann Johnson was the daughter of Charles Johnson (b. 27 Sep 1753 Campbell Co., VA, d. 17 Jan 1813 Lynchburg, VA) and Mrs Mary “Molley” Moorman Johnson (b. 10 May 1858 Bedford Co., VA, d. 25 Jul 1849 Campbell Co., VA). They were married on 16 Aug 1778 at South River, Bedford Co., VA. Nancy Ann Johnson and Joseph Venable Hardwicke were married on 17 Jul 1809 in Lynchburg, VA, witnessed by her father, Charles Johnson (see attached marriage record). Joseph Venable Hardwicke was a tailor who spent his adult life in Lynchburg and Richmond, VA. Hardwick (age range 26 thru 44-actual age 26 Y/O). Also living in the household was his wife, age range 16 thru 25 and one male under 10 Y/O. This child was most probably John Venable Hardwicke, b. 1810. The 07 Aug 1820 US Census of Lynchburg, Lynchburg Co., VA enumerated the household of Joseph V. Hardwick, age range 26 thru 44-actual age 36 Y/O. Also living in the household was his wife, age range 26 thru 44, and two children, one male (10-15 Y/O) John Veneable Hardwick and one female (under 10 Y/O) Mary Elizabeth Hardwicke, b. 1812. The 1840 US Census of Lynchburg, Campbell Co., VA enumerated the household of Joseph V. Hardwick (age range 50 thru 59-actual age 56). Also living in the household was his wife, age range 40 thru 49. There was one male under 10 Y/O and one male 10 thru 15 Y/O. The 1850 US Census of Richmond City, VA enumerated 67 Y/O Joseph Venable Hardwick, retired tailor, and his 60 Y/O wife, Mary Ann (Johnson) Hardwick. Living in the household was their 22 Y/O son, George Willis Hardwick, a printer, and their 21 year old grandson, James W. Hope, a tailor. James W. Hope was the son of Mary Elizabeth Hardwick Hope Dawn by her first husband, Willis B. Hope. He obviously had been an apprentice in his grandfather's tailoring business. The 1860 US Census of Lynchburg, Campbell Co., VA enumerated the household of 31 Y/O George Willis Hardwicke, a newspaper editor born in VA, and his 21 Y/O wife, Mary C. Hardwicke, also born in VA. Living in their household were their two Virginia born children: 2 Y/O William S. Hardwicke and 5 months old Mary H. Hardwicke. Also living in the household were the 70 Y/O widow, Mary Ann (Johnson) Hardwick, the mother of George Willis Hardwicke, and 26 Y/O William Walford Hardwicke, an accountant. William Walford Hardwicke (1834-1877) served the CSA in Hardwicke's Company, Virginia Light Artillery (Lee Battery). He married Sally Sale in 1867. NOTE: William Walford Hardwicke was the son of John Venable Hardwicke (1810-1885). Thus he was the nephew of George Willis Hardwicke and the grandson of Mary Ann (Johnson) Hardwick. The children of Joseph Venable and Nancy Ann (Johnson) Hardwicke were: 1) John Venable Hardwicke, b. 1810 Prob. Campbell Co., VA, d. 1883 Prob. Richmond , VA, m. 11 Apr 1833 Henrico Co., VA Sarah N. Dawn. 3) William Sale Hardwicke, b. 13 Mar 1819 VA, d. 24 Oct 1860 Hawkins Co., TN, m. 26 May 1843 Penelope M. Etter in Grainger Co., TN, Occupation-Tailor. 4) George Willis Hardwicke, b. 14 Oct 1828 Lynchburg, VA, d. 16 Nov 1891 Wilmington, New Hanover Co., N.C., m.
