Read More	Nancy Anne (Johnson) Burke was born in Los Angeles, California on February 12, 1926 to Harry and Ruth (Hilstad) Johnson. Nancy passed away on May 8, 2019 at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Bremerton, Washington. Nancy was married to David Edward Burke in 1944 on her 18th birthday. David was in the U.S. Navy at the time and living in Pasco, Washington, where they made their first home. After leaving the Navy, Mom and Dad made a home in Central Kitsap on a small farm near the intersection of John Carlson and Old Military Rd. They raised cows, pigs, chickens, dogs, cats – and kids. Mom had a thriving business selling butter and eggs. Her customers preferred her butter over others because of the added care she took to thoroughly rinse it. A very an important step! Mom and Dad moved from the farm to a home they built with the help of family, across from Central Kitsap High School. During the construction project, the family lived with Nancy’s parents. Shortly after completing the new home, it was sold, and the family moved to Callow Avenue where they made their home for many years. During this time, Mom worked at Woolworth’s Department Store while Dad worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. In their years together, David and Nancy raised three daughters – Judy, Susan, and Pauli. They enjoyed many wonderful life experiences with their family – too many stories to share. If you ask their 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, they would ALL say that THEY were their Nana and Grandpa’s favorite. In retirement, Nancy and David became “snow birds”, traveling South to enjoy warmer weather and gathering with special friends. During their travels they were active in assisting churches with building and remodeling projects. Nancy and David often gave of their talents and finances to those in need and were staunch supporters of missions and missionaries around the world. Nancy was a consummate and loving caregiver for her husband, mother, and father until their passing. Her love for Jesus and faith in Him sustained her throughout her entire life and was evident in her love for her family and friends. Nancy loved to share her faith and would travel weekly to multiple rest homes to play the piano, sing hymns, and lead a Bible study. After she could no longer drive, Nancy moved to Claremont Senior Living, an independent living facility in Bremerton. She loved living at Claremont and made many friends there, and enjoyed the varied activities. She spent endless hours making quilts for multiple groups in the area. In her years of quilt making, she and her group made over 2,000 quilts for children in need and for local crisis centers. If she wasn’t in her room quilting, you might find her doing a puzzle or making cookies to share. (She made many new friends that way!) News of her legendary honey cookies traveled fast.
