On Thursday, April 6, 1922, just as the lights of our little city came on the light of one of our pioneer mother, Mrs. Kate Bradshaw, silently and peacefully sank beyond the horizon. The sudden summons left her friends dazed and plans unfulfilled. With deepest sorrow and sincerity we offer a few words of tribute to the memory of her we knew and admired. We bear in remembrance her untiring devotion in her church — Presbyterian; and to all that was high and noble. A character like that of Mrs. Bradshaw is hard to express in mere words. One must have known her intimately to learn all its beauty, goodness and unselfishness; to be able to measure its worth. She lived so modestly, yet graciously, that one often felt her life comparable to a violet. In her home life she was an ideal wife and mother, devotedly loved by her husband and children; cherished as a true friend by the big circle; or clan of relatives — the loyal, sincere Kendricks and Bradshaws, man whom are no finer people. "Aunt Kate" lived a life of consistent helpful service — ready and willing at all times to give of her time and strength to the sick or those in need or distress. In her daily life she strove to live the beautiful lessons taught by her Savior. Nancy Kate Hopkins was born in Harrisburg, Rockingham county, Virginia, January 7, 1845 [sic]. In 1866 she was married to Thomas S. Bradshaw and soon after they came to Missouri and settled on a splendid farm near Newark. There four son and three daughters came to round out their lives and happiness. Later Mr. Bradshaw and his nephew, "Billy" Kendrick, exchanged farms and the Bradshaw family lived on that farm a few miles south of LaBelle for a long time. Then they moved to the southern part of the state, but after seven years homesickness brought them back to their folks and they became residents of LaBelle. In a cozy home the elderly couple lived contented until the stalwart husband was called to the "home beyond the stars." Mr. and Mr. Bradshaw gave generously and freely of their substance to the Presbyterian church — their spiritual home, and to all good cause. In their home the free-hearted southern hospitably was shown to friend and stranger alike. Of the eight children five are living. viz: G. S. Bradshaw, of Ekalaka, Montana; Mrs. Annie Campbell, of Cassidy, Montana; L. C. Bradshaw, of Pilot Grove; A. H. Bradshaw and Mrs. Katie Hall, of LaBelle. Also there are seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a great number of near relative and friends to cherish the memory of this mother of Israel. As no word of ours can comfort the bereaved, we commend them to the God of rest and consolation, who said "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you." She has solved the wonderful problem The deepest, the strangest! the last — And into the school of the angels With the answer forever ha passed. Mrs. Bradshaw's funeral was held in the Presbyterian church Saturday morning conducted by the pastor. Rev. R. M. Firebaugh, and interment was in the family lot of the Newark cemetery.
