When the writer first became acquainted with Mr. Turner and his estimable family they were keeping a hotel knwon as the "Perry House," in this city on a spot of ground situated about where the north end of Henry Kroeger's livery stable now stands: which time was in the early seventies [1870's]. They continued to reside here until about twenty-one years ago when they moved to Cass county, resided on the Uncle L.P. Hallock farm, near Lorah, after which they moved into the town of Lorah; made their home there until the last days of October of last year when they came to the home of their son, Nathan Turner, north-east of Exira in Greeley township where, on Saturday morning, Marach 31, 1906, the good mother closed her eyes in death and the spirit went hence to her reward before the great white throne. The funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Turner on Monday following, conducted by Rev. Wilson, pastor of the Audubon Christian Church and the body was tenderly laid to rest in the Exira Cemetery. To Mr. and Mrs. John Turner ten children were born, three having preceded their mother to the spirit world. There remains to mourn her loss her aged husband, and her children: Mrs. Mary Parrot, of Exira; Nathan Turner, of Greeley township; Mrs. Alice Parker of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Thomas Turner who resides near Atlantic, Iowa; Will Turner of Butler, Missouri; Miss Belle Turner, who has been one of the main stays of her mother during her declining years, and who was with her when the final summons came; and Mrs. Veana Bickett whose home is out at Kalispel, Montana. Thus passed to the great beyond, one of the pioneers of the south part of the County, and one whose hospitality knew no bounds, for in those days houses and neighbors were pretty well scattered in this neighborhood and the driving storms of winter often found many a belated traveler at their door but, none ever went away without first being warmed and fed beneath their sheltered roof."
