She was a member of Vasper Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Gillum was born in Campbell Co. in the Ford Town Community of LaFollette. She attended LaFollette High School. She was author of the book, "The Life of a Tennessee Sheriff her late father Sheriff Rose Kitts." Mrs. Gillum was dedicated to God, Family, and Community. She has served on the Board of Directors at Open Arms Ministry. She has served in many capacities for Cerebral Palsy of East Tennessee, helping the handicapped and the 47 victims of Cerebral Palsy of Campbell County. She loved Campbell County dearly and devoted most of her life to rendering services for various organizations. Mrs. Gillum is survived by her husband, Howard T. Gillum, Sr.; daughter, Melissa "Missy" Gillum; six sons, Rev. James R. "Kenny" Gillum; daughter-in-law, Connie Gillum, Rev. Howard T. Gillum, Jr.; daughter-in-law,Shirley Gillum; Roger Gillum; daughter-in-law, Louise Gillum; Rusty David Gillum; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Gillum, all of LaFollette, Tenn.; son, Michael Gillum; daughter-in-law, Mary Gillum of Randolph, Ala.; son, Joel Edward Gillum; daughter-in-law, Michelle Gillum of Washington State; 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, David, Larry, Ronny, Billy Jack, Boyd, Rose Jr., Elmer and Robert Kitts; sisters, Barbara Joan Carson, Lorene Rutherford, Geraldine Ayers and Linda Benge, all of LaFollette. Preceded in death by her father, the late Sheriff Rose Kitts and mother, Gertrude Riggs Harmon Kitts.; third son, Stephen Rodney Gillum and infant daughter; brother, Troy Kitts and sister, Margaret Kitts. Funeral service 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2000, in the Martin Wilson Chapel with the Rev. Leonard Dabney, Rev. Clyde Ellison, Rev. O. P. Byrd and Rev. James R. "Kenny" Gillum officiating. Interment 2 p.m. Thursday at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. prior to the Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews, David Gillum, Mark Gillum, Mike Gillum, Roger Lee Gillum, Russell Gillum, Josh Gillum, Jason Gillum, Steven Gillum, Joel Edward Gillum II and Scott Kitts. Honorary pallbearers: Tom Stiner, Dormas Miller, Ron McClellan, Jerry Sharp, Charles Herman, Charles Winfrey, and Danny Wilson; two special brothers, Rose Kitts, Jr. and Elmer Kitts. Martin Wilson Funeral Home, of LaFollette, in charge of arrangements.
