Ewell, Winchester Place, and Mrs. Eugene Abell, Jr., Pennsylvania avenue, are dead, as the result of a road crash at about 4:30 o'clock at the Owings Mills bridge, New Year's morning. Mrs. Abell was killed instantly, having suffered a broken neck and skull fracture. Ewell, who operated the car, died later in the University Hospital. There were seven members in the party. Mrs. Abell was killed instantly, having suffered a broken neck and skull fracture. Ewell, who operated the car, died later in the University Hospital. There were seven members in the party. The party was returning from Baltimore through an extremely heavy fog and over wet and slippery roads. This caused Mr. Ewell to follow the central white line as a guide. The car crashed into the railroad bridge abutment and was badly wrecked. In the party were Mr. and Mrs. Ewell, Mr. and Mrs. Abell, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Bitzel and Joseph Edwards, all of Westminster. Services for Mrs. Naomi Davidson Abell, wife of Eugene Abell, Jr., were held on Thursday at 2 P. M., from the J. E. Myers. Jr., funeral chapel, Willis street, in charge of the Rev. C. O. Sullivan, Frederick, and the Rev. Cronise Barr, pastor of the Bethel Church of God, Carrollton. Interment was in Bethel cemetery. The pallbearers were: Homer Snyder, Elmer Stiffler, Norman Duvall, Harris Pickett, Thomas Barnhart, and Lawrence Mackley. Besides her husband she is survived by her parents. Earl and Grace Switzer Davidson, Hampstead, a sister, Pauline, Hampstead, and the following brothers: Joseph, with the U. S. Army in France; Elmer, Manchester; Robert, serving with the armed forces in the Southwest Pacific; Donald, Hampstead; and Harry, with the U. S. Army in Florida. Carroll County Times 5 Jan 1945
