Description	:	Nathan was the son of Elias Richard and Elizabeth Keziah Toleson DeHart. Born in NC, he traveled to Wayne County, KY with his parents when he was an adolescent. When he was a young adult, he returned to NC and married Catherine Ramsey in Burke County. He was 22 and she was 21. Their son John was born the following year. Read More	Nathan was the son of Elias Richard and Elizabeth Keziah Toleson DeHart. Born in NC, he traveled to Wayne County, KY with his parents when he was an adolescent. When he was a young adult, he returned to NC and married Catherine Ramsey in Burke County. He was 22 and she was 21. Their son John was born the following year. By the time their second child, William, was born, they had migrated to eastern TN for a short time, and then by 1812 moved on to Wayne County, KY where he began buying land and farming. In 1826, Nathan and sons William and John and neighbors George and William Lovelace were on the tax list of Monroe County, TN, probably dealing in land speculation, while their families stayed in KY. A few years later, he and several family members followed his son John back to NC, this time to what is now Swain County, but which was Macon County then. He kept buying land until his holdings there and in nearby Cherokee County (now Clay) were more than a thousand acres. Three of his children settled in Cherokee County, so by the time Nathan was 74 in 1855, he and Catherine moved to the Tusquittee Valley, presumably to be close to those children, since his health was declining. In 1857 he and his son Morgan DeHart drew up a legal agreement in which Morgan was to have the use of his father's land for seven years in exchange for caring for his parents, "excepting their food and clothing". Almost blind and deaf, and afflicted with an extremely painful condition of his legs which swelled and burst, healed, then swelled and burst again, he lived four more years until he passed away. His body was taken back to Swain County for burial. Because of heavy rains that had swollen the Little Tennessee River, the burial location was changed from the original plan to bury him on the other side, and he was buried on a hill on his beautiful old farm on Licklog Creek. A few years later, his wife Catherine was laid to rest beside him.
