Read More	NATE LEVENGOOD, OLDTIMER HERE, DIED IN VALLEY Lived in Deer Lodge Valley since 1878; "Uncle Nate" Known to Hundreds in State; Funeral Wednesday. Anaconda Bureau Nathan J. Levengood, 84 years old, one of the first residents of the Deer Lodge Valley, died Sunday evening at his home west of Anaconda, following a short illness of diabetis. "Uncle Nate," as Mr. Levengood familiarly known to practically every person in the Deer Lodge Valley, and many in other parts of Montana, had lived in the west valley since 1878, and died at his little home at Meyer's Dam, where he had been custodian since 1903. With the death of Mr. Levengood is parted a devoted couple, Mrs. Levengood is endearingly called "Aunt Lou" by the hundreds who know her. Mr. And Mrs. Levengood made the trip to Ft. Benton by way of the Missouri in '78. From there they "staged" the distance to the Deer Lodge Valley to join Peter Levengood, a brother, one of Montana's oldest pioneers, who resides in Anaconda. Few fishermen and pleasure seakers in the western end of the Deer Lodge Valley but had been entertained by Uncle Nate and Aunt Lou and those people are but a part of a host who were saddened Sunday at the word of Mr. Levengoods death. Confederate soldier, Mississippi boatman, prospector and rancher, Mr. Levengood led an interesting life. He was born at Falmouth, Pendelton county, Kentucky, Feb. 22, 1837, and he and Miss Lucinda McCaudleff were married Feb. 23, 1860. In the great Civil War "Uncle Nate" fought as a lieutentent with the Confederacy, and after the conflict journeyed to Missouri, where he was a boatman on the steamer ""Raso May". A few years later the trip was made to Montana. Mr. Levengood was in Anaconda last Thursday and visited with friends. He went to his home that evening and was taken dangerously ill Friday. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity for over (69?, I can read the 9, first number blurred) years and the services will be held under the auspices of that order Wednesday afternoon at 2: 30 o'clock. Besides his widow, Mr. Levengood is survived by his brother, Peter Levengood of Anaconda, another brother in Missouri, and a sister in Kansas. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
