Description	:	Nathan M. Hockett, the son of Amos and Elizabeth (Davis) Hockett, was born near Denova, Tippecanoe Township, Henry County, Iowa, on March 4, 1850. On August 29, 1869, he married Avaline Crosbie, the daughter of John M. and Matilda (Frazer) Crosbie. Hockett, the son of Amos and Elizabeth (Davis) Hockett, was born near Denova, Tippecanoe Township, Henry County, Iowa, on March 4, 1850. On August 29, 1869, he married Avaline Crosbie, the daughter of John M. and Matilda (Frazer) Crosbie. In October of 1878, along with his parents Amos and Elizabeth and other members of the Hockett family, Nathan and his family moved to near Codell in Paradise Township, Rooks County, Kansas. Nathan and Avaline's daughter Celestra Frary wrote in 1949, that there were 32 family members in their number, and after five weeks on the road their train of nine covered wagons, one light wagon with blacksmith tools and other necessary articles, and 4 or 5 extra horses arrived at the sod house that had been built for their arrival. Nathan and his family moved back to Iowa about 1890. Nathan is listed in the 1870 census in Tippecanoe Township, Henry County as a farmer; in the 1880 census in Rooks County, Kansas, as a farmer; in the 1900 census in Round Prairie Township, Jefferson County, Iowa, as a farmer; and in the 1910 census in Salem, Iowa as a grocery store merchant. In 1911 he and Avaline moved to Memphis, Scotland County, Missouri, and he took his letter from the Salem Friends Church, the church of his choice, and united with the Presbyterian Church of Memphis. In March of 1925 he and Avaline traveled to Fairfield in response to a message that their daughter Minnie Case was critically ill and hospitalized with appendicitis. While staying at the home of Minnie and Marshall Case, Nathan suddenly suffered a stroke of paralysis and died there on March 17, 1925. Funeral services were held at the Salem Friends Church, with burial in the Friends South Cemetery. Nathan was survived by his wife, Avaline; his children, Celestia May Frary of Brush, Colorado, Lura Alice Davis of Fort Morgan, Colorado, Minnie Florence Case of near Fairfield, Iowa, and Howard M. Hockett of Memphis, Missouri; and four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
