McCarver was born near Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee in 1829. His parents moved to Arkansas while he was yet a youth and builded(sic) a pioneers home in a wild wilderness. When he grew to manhood he located in Madison county and was one of the "pathfinders" who blazed the way for the march of civilization. When the civil war broke out in all its fury and states were wheeling into line, he pressed into the thickest of the fray. He marched with victorious legions under the federal plume and fought a hundred battles on some of the bloodiest fields of modern times. He lived a hero's life in that iron age and won a warriors fadeless fame. In his later days, however, he was a genial gentleman with no trace of the dauntless warrior of the years that had gone. He never murmured against the decrees of fate nor rebelled against the inevitable. But notwithstanding his caution he was not exempt from sorrows and afflictions which embittered his declining years. Misfortunes, domestic and otherwise, gathered around him. The friends and kindred of his earlier days had mostly departed and he seemed alone, like some tall tree bereft of the sheltering forest, and left alone to battle with the winds of winter. Then death came as a bidden fruit to rescue him from his sorrows and calamities. He passed away without a struggle on the morn of March 4, 1899. He had passed into the sere and yellow leaf, and had almost reached the bounds which nature had allotted to mortality. He had accomplished his work and has gone to lie down, to rest in the fold where dwell the myriads who have gone before. ================================
