(Note from original page manager) Cherokee Sentinel, Jan. 12, 1917, page 1: Nathaniel Copper was born in Pennsylvania, Oct. 21, 1842, and early in his life removed with his parents to Hancock County, Ind. where he made his home till early manhood. Early in his life he united with the Christian church, in which faith he lived consistently until his Savior called him home at 8:30 a.m. January 6, 1917 at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 16 days. He enlisted in Company G 12th Indiana Infantry Aug. 1st, 1862, and served until the end of the war, being mustered out June 8th, 1865. He was a member of Shiloh Post number 56 G.A.R. Department of Kansas. In 1865 he was married to Sibyileer Eakes. To this union seven children were born. In 1869 he with his family and children came to Kansas and settled on a farm near Cherokee where he lived with his family until death removed his beloved companion in 1902. Since that time he has lived among his children. About three years ago he was stricken with paralysis which greatly impaired his speech, thus making his life more sad for him. Since that calamity he has longed to be called to his home above. On New Year's Day he was attacked with a second stroke of paralysis and though all was done that could be done, after much suffering he passed to his reward on high. He is survived by one brother, three sisters, and six children; three sons and three daughters. While we mourn his loss here we know that he is happy and enjoying the companionship of dear ones in his heavenly home to which he desired so exceedingly and prayed so fervently to be called. Funeral services were held at the Christian church on Sunday and interment made in the Cherokee cemetery. Contributed by Cheryl White
