Description	:	Nathaniel was born to John Sproul and Mary Dail in Armagh County, Ireland. Nathaniel and 5 of his 6 brothers emigrated to Canada. Their brother, Thomas Sproul (1819 - 1870) remained in Ireland. The 5 brothers who came to Canada are: John Sproul (1817 - 1900) Jonathan Sproul (1823 - 1877) William Sproul (1825 - 1907) Hugh Sproul (1829 - 1908) Robert Sproul (1834 - 1918) Nathaniel emigrated in 1851. On October 22, 1855 he married Elizabeth McBride. The couple settled on Lot 22, Concession 2 of Amaranth Township. In 1860, Nathaniel's brother Robert married Elizabeth's sister, Rachel McBride. In 1872, Nathaniel and Elizabeth moved to east quarter, lot 14, Concession 3 of Mono Township. On April 29, 1882, Nathaniel lost his love Elizabeth. In 1884, Nathaniel sold his farm and moved to the town of Orangeville, residing on East Broadway. In 1885, he married widow Mrs. Margaret Buchanan. Margaret became the mother-in-law to his daughter, Letitia when her son, Samuel, married into the family later that year. Nathaniel & Margaret briefly moved to Mulmar Township but moved back to Orangeville. Nathaniel was the father of 11 children. 5 of his children never reached adulthood. All his children were born to his first wife. The local paper in it's obituary of Nathaniel wrote "The late Mr. Sproul was a staunch Presbyterian and lived a saintly Christian life. He first became identified with the church at Whittington in 1858, during the pastorate of Rev. James Nesbitt, who afterwards became the first Presbyterian missionary in Saskatchewan. He was elected an elder of the Mono West church when only 28 years of age. This church, then situated on the Mono-Amaranth townline, was afterwards incorporated as St. Andrew's church, Camilla. He was also an elder of St. Andrew's church, Orangeville, for several years. In politics Mr. Sproul was a Conservative with independent leanings. He took advanced ground on temperance and social reform problems, in which he was deeply interested. In his death the community loses a good man. The funeral was held from his late residence on Second St. to the Forest Lawn cemetery..."
