Race, 82, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Chapel in Fremont. He died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at Arbor Manor in Fremont. Neal D. Race was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Venus to George and Alda (Keller) Race. He grew up in northeast Nebraska. He served with the U.S. Army in northern France during World War II from April 2, 1943, to April 9, 1946. He married Marilyn Marinec on June 4, 1947, in Norfolk. He lived in Norfolk where he worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a car inspector. He moved to Fremont in the early 1970s and was employed by Union Pacific as a car inspector. He retired in 1986. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 200 of Fremont and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1644 in Norfolk. Survivors include: his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Gary (and wife, Kathleen) Race of Omaha and Larry Race of Fremont; two brothers, Dale Race of Norfolk and Danny Race of Pierce, Colo.; four sisters, Lois Hartman of Beemer, Betty Moon of Stanton, Wanda (Mrs. Leonard) Schmitz of Windsor, Colo. and Karen Bess of Weiser, Idaho; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother. The Rev. Michael Meyer will officiate Monday's service. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, with family receiving friends 2-4 p.m., at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation also will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Military graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk. A memorial has been established to Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont.
