Mr. Bloom was born July 25, 1931, at Idana, the son of LeRoy "Hap" and Thelma (Gonser) Bloom. He grew up in Idana and graduated from CCCHS in 1949. He married Darlene Bigler on Dec. 19, 1952. She preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2006. He worked for Obenland Plumbing, KP&L, Gilmore-Tatge, and was a co-owner of Key Feeds. He served in the National Guard and retired in 1991, after 42 years of service, with the rank of major. He was the current Master of the Clay Center Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the B.P.O.E. and the Clay Center American Legion. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Schwab and husband Doug of Clifton; four sons, Caleb Bloom and wife Jamie of Clay Center, Aaron Bloom of Clay Center, Tracy Bloom and wife Jessica of Topeka and Garth Bloom and wife Mary of Wichita; two sisters, Jean Hatfield and husband Don of Clay Center and Cheryl Lonergan and husband John of Justice, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church, Clay Center, with the Rev. Larry Myers officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.
