Description	:	Neil Houston Smith Jr., age 86, of Waverly, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Neil was born on April 30, 1926, rural Waverly, Iowa, the son of Neil Sr. and Anna (Leitha) Smith. He attended Warren Country School #6 near Waverly and later Waverly High School where he graduated in 1944. Neil farmed west of Waverly all his life where he had Brown Swiss dairy cows until the mid 70's. Read More	Neil Houston Smith Jr., age 86, of Waverly, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Neil was born on April 30, 1926, rural Waverly, Iowa, the son of Neil Sr. and Anna (Leitha) Smith. He attended Warren Country School #6 near Waverly and later Waverly High School where he graduated in 1944. Neil farmed west of Waverly all his life where he had Brown Swiss dairy cows until the mid 70's. Neil was an active member and volunteer at Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly where he was instrumental in the planning and building of the Church. He also served on the church board where he acted as treasurer. Neil was active in many organizations including Washington Township Trustee, American Soybean Association, Kiwanis, Cedar Valley Resource Conservation and Development, Waverly Senior Center Board, Gideon's, Chairman for many years of the Soil Conservation Board, Walk and Talk Club, committees for the Waverly Rural Fire Department, and Farm Bureau. Neil enjoyed traveling including many trips to California and trips to Europe, Panama, and Alaska. Other enjoyments included woodworking and socializing, often at Coonradt Ford. Neil's memory is honored by his brother: Sylvester (Marge) Smith of Escondido, California; and their children, Jackie (Tom) Wood, Larry (Kelly) Smith, and Jeff (Denise) Smith all of California; a sister, Sylvia (Howard) Parmer of Waverly; and their children, JoAnn (Russ) Hardy of Mason City, Iowa, Nancy Huebner of Waterloo, Iowa, Darrel (Connie) Parmer of Charles City, Iowa, Randy (Kim) Parmer of Dunkirk, Maryland; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews; and a caregiver and friend, Sarah Mohling. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 25, at Heritage United Church in Waverly with Pastor Moody Colorado officiating. Burial will follow at the Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 24, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Heritage United Methodist church, Gideon's, or the Waverly Senior Center
