Neil was born April 5, 1928 at Holdrege, one of five children to Glen and Violet (Lunberry) Young. He received his primary education from a country school, southwest of Holdrege near their family farm, and then graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1945. Read More	Neil Phillip Young, 90 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Neil was born April 5, 1928 at Holdrege, one of five children to Glen and Violet (Lunberry) Young. He received his primary education from a country school, southwest of Holdrege near their family farm, and then graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1945. Following his education, Neil began his lifelong passion of farming, southwest of Holdrege with his father. In addition, Neil also sold Pioneer Seed Corn. With Neil’s personality, selling seed corn was very rewarding to him as he established friendship bonds that lasted his entire life. On August 20, 1950, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Faye Mattson at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege. To this union three children: Cynthia Lou, Nancy Renee, and Randall Scott. The family made their home on the farm southwest of Holdrege, and later moved to their new home in 1975 near the original homestead. In 2002, Neil and Marilyn retired from farming, and later moved into Holdrege in 2015. As a young man, Neil accepted the Lord as his personal savior, and continued to be faithful his entire life. He was a member of the Loomis Evangelical Free Church, where he was baptized and confirmed, and active as a Trustee and Elder throughout the years. Neil loved to roller skate when he was younger, enjoyed fishing, and many memories were created on family camping adventures. He was an avid sports fan, no matter what sport it was, Neil enjoyed being a spectator, cheering on his local team. He especially enjoyed following his grandchildren’s sporting events, and school activities. Neil was well liked by all who knew him, he especially bonded with small children within minutes of meeting a young person. Neil and Marilyn also bonded with many foster children that they cared for throughout the years. They enjoyed traveling together, and when Marilyn began her catering business, he was always devoted to assisting her in any way he could! Besides his parents, Neil was preceded in death by two siblings in infancy: Cletus and Phyllis; and sister, Joann tenBensel and her husband, Richard; brother, Donald Young; sister-in-law, Gloria Ekberg; brothers-in-law: Terry Christensen, and Roger Mattson; and son-in-law, Daniel Johnson. He leaves to celebrate his life; his beloved wife of 68 years, Marilyn Young of Holdrege; his three children: Cindy Johnson of Salina, Kansas; Nancy Hoeck and her husband, Roger; and Randy Young and his wife, Jeanette all of Holdrege; eight grandchildren: Christine Johnson; Chad Johnson and his wife, Amber; Cathy Hill; Jamie Carlson and her husband, Kevin; Tim Hoeck; Amanda Gonzalez-Miranda and her husband, Cristian; and Anthony and Julia Young; seven great-grandchildren: Marshall and Kamdyn Johnson; Mason and Keelie Hill; and Cooper, Colby, and Canon Carlson; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Young of Atlanta, Nebraska; Audrey Christensen of Kearney, Nebraska, and Virginia Mattson of the Philippines; brother-in-law, Don Ekberg of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of the arrangements.
