Description	:	Mrs. Nellie Bedard, a resident of this community for fifty-six years, passed away about two o'clock last Friday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Wilken, following an illness of more than eight months. She was removed to the home of her daughter several weeks ago so that she might receive better care. Read More	Mrs. Nellie Bedard, a resident of this community for fifty-six years, passed away about two o'clock last Friday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Wilken, following an illness of more than eight months. She was removed to the home of her daughter several weeks ago so that she might receive better care. Many times during the past several months her life was dispaired of but each time she rallied until she suffered a stroke on Saturday the week preceding her death. During her illness she suffered greatly but she bore it all with great fortitude and was willing to fight the battle in hopes that she might regain her health. Following the stroke she grew weaker gradually until the end which came last Friday. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Associated Church with Rev. R. J. Cornell, the pastor, in charge. The Royal Neighbors attended the funeral in a body. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Nellie Cornelia Patterson was born Aug. 7, 1867, at Lancaster, Wis., and passed away Sept. 4, 1931, at the age of 64 years and 28 days. She was the daughter of Alvin and Elizabeth Patterson and was but eight months old when her father died. When she was about six years old she came to LeMars with her mother and in 1875, two years later, moved onto a farm west of Hawarden, in Union County, and ever since she has been a resident of this community. On Christmas Day in 1883 she was united in marriage with Sam Bedard and they lived on a farm west of Hawarden until about twelve years ago when they moved to Hawarden. Mr. Bedard passed away Dec. 9, 1924. Ten children were born to Mr. & Mrs. Bedard, nine of whom survive. One daughter, Mamie, died at the age of twelve years. She leaves to mourn her death three sons, John of Sioux City; Harry of Alcester; and Fred of Hawarden; and six daughters, Mrs. Lilly Harvey of Marcus, IA; Mrs. Gladys Heald of Denver, CO; Mrs. Fleeta Bonnichsen of Alcester; Mrs. Neva Conway and Mrs. Marge Wilken of Hawarden; and Mrs. Dorothy Smith of Gillispie, IL. All of her children were here for the funeral except Mrs. Heald who was unable to come. There are thirty-one grandchildren. Her mother died March 6, 1924, and a half-sister, Clara Brooks, died about sixteen years ago. Mrs. Bedard joined the Hawarden Congregational church about thirty-two years ago and was a faithful member. She was a member of the local order of the Royal Neighbors of America. Mrs. Bedard was a kind mother and no sacrifice was too great for her to make for the welfare of her family. She possessed a cheerful disposition and made many friends who together with her family will mourn her death. Hawarden Independent 9/10/1931
