Nellie Josephine Howerton was born April 4, 1898, and died Oct. 31, 1906, aged 8 years, 6 months and 27 days. She was with us so short a time, yet during her stay on earth she made home bright for papa, mamma, 3 brothers and 3 sisters, whom she leaves behind to mourn her departure, but their loss is heaven's gain. Little Nellie was sick only a short time with that dreaded disease diphtheretic croup, but we know she suffers no more. Death laid its pallid hand on the bright jewel of their home. Gone is the sweet voice that fell so lovingly on their ears, but the separation is not forever. They shall meet her in that bright world where there is no more sickness, sorrow nor death. Her spirit has now leaped from its prison of clay to bask in the sweet sunlight of heaven. Little Nellie was a regular attendant at church services where she became a favorite of all who met her. The writer has known little Nellie all her life, and had always found her to be a sweet, unspoiled child. Funeral services were held at the house by Rev. Blayney after which the remains were taken to King graveyard to await the resurrection morn. Farewell dear parents I must go Where I will not sigh nor weep; I am going where I will brighter grow 'Tis now eternal sleep. Home is not home since Nellie is not here; Angels have taken her out of our care. Dark is the room, vacant is the chair; She has gone to that home so peaceful and fair. We watched her breathing through the night, Her breathing soft and low, As in her breast the wave of life Kept heaving to and fro, But alas! when morning broke She fell asleep and in Jesus awoke.
