Reese Summoned by Death Friday Evening A gloom of sorrow was cast over the entire community when word went out that Mrs. J.S. Reese had passed away at her home northeast of Creighton on Friday evening at 5 p.m. Mrs. Reese had been ill for the past six months and her death was due to cancer of the liver. All that loving hands and medical science could do was administered but to no avail and she passed peacefully on to the other world. Nellie Josephine Ives, daughter of Eben and Caroline Ives, was born in Dodge county, Nebraska on February 28, 1874. She departed this life on April 12, 1929 at the age of 55 years, 1 month and 12 days. She was united in marriage to James Sidney Reese on February 14, 1893 at North Bend, where most of their married life was spent, moving to Creighton in 1914, where they have since resided. To this union were born eight children, all of whom are living. Those left to mourn are her husband, four sons and four daughters. Ollin Sidney of North Bend, Annabel Carder of Creighton, Bertha Kahler of Creighton, Gladys Radcliff of Atkinson, Harley, Agnes, Leonard and Richard at home; besides six grandchildren, two brothers, Edgar A. Ives of North Bend and Bert Ives of Forrest Grove, Ore. and four sisters, Mrs. Katie Ward of Creighton, Mrs. Anna Acorn of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Belle Booth of Clarks, Nebr. and Mrs. Daisy Devine of Central City, Nebr., besides a host of friends. Mrs. Reese was a faithful member of the Rebekah lodge for fifteen years and held the office of secretary for over six years, until failing health compelled her to retire from active service. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand where sorrow and suffering cast their shadow and will be greatly missed by all the members. The bereaved family will remember her as a faithful, loving wife and mother. To know her was to love her; her thoughts were ever of her home and loved ones. Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist church in charge of the pastor, Rev. Kuhler. The huge crowd present at the last rites attested to the esteem in which the deceased was held in this community. Many beautiful floral bouquets were in evidence, which likewise bore a silent tribute to this good woman. Members of the Rebekah lodge escorted the body to its last resting place at the grave. The remains were interred in Greenwood cemetery. The News joins with friends in extending condolences of a sincere nature to the bereaved family in the loss of their wife, mother and sister.
