She was born June 27, 1918, in Mahaska County, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Marie Geerlings Roozeboom. She attended school at Tracy, Iowa. Following school she worked at the old F. W. Woolworth Store in Oskaloosa. In 1940 Nellie was united in marriage to William Brubaker at Kirksville, Missouri, and he died April 30, 1970. She was born June 27, 1918, in Mahaska County, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Marie Geerlings Roozeboom. She attended school at Tracy, Iowa. Following school she worked at the old F. W. Woolworth Store in Oskaloosa. In 1940 Nellie was united in marriage to William Brubaker at Kirksville, Missouri, and he died April 30, 1970. In the early 1960s she worked at the Western Auto store in Oskaloosa. Lastly, she worked for the Mahaska County Hospital as a Nurse's Aid, retiring in the late 1970s. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. Nellie enjoyed sewing, knitting, and yard work. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren. Her family includes three sons, Bob (and Pam) Brubaker of East Peoria, Illinois, Rodger (and Mary Lou) Brubaker of Flagstaff, Arizona, and John (and Linda) Brubaker of Oskaloosa; two daughters, Diane Lemon of Des Moines, and Jane (and Larry) Murray of Camp Verde, Arizona; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harry Roozeboom; and two sisters, Billie Stek and Evie McCrosky. A Mass of Christian Burial for Nellie Brubaker will be Monday, November 5, 2007, at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Thomas Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery at Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin Sunday after 11 a.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel, and the family will be at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
